M151 REMOTE WEAPON STATION

The M151 Protector Remote Weapon Station (RWS) is a modern, remotely controlled fire station that can be mounted on vehicles as well as on stationary platforms. Mass production started in December 2001 and so far more than 17,000 units of this command post have been produced. Protector Remote Weapon Station was developed and manufactured by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense Systems. It is a firing position dedicated to small- and medium-caliber weapons, which allows them to be operated from inside a combat vehicle. It uses modern optoelectronic systems for guidance and targeting. The Protector allows the user to independently configure the weapon from such elements as: heavy machine guns (e.g. M2 Browning, M240 / FN MAG or M243 / FN), automatic grenade launchers (e.g. Mk.19) or anti-tank guided missiles (e.g. Javelin or Hellfire). The M151 Protector Remote Weapon Station is used by many foreign users, including: USA (on cars from the Stryker family and M1A2 Abrams tanks), Germany (on Fennek vehicles) or Romania (on Piranha V cars).
