CANADIAN VICKERS DELTA MK.II RCAF "ON SNOW AND WATER"

The Canadian Vickers Delta II was an American, but licensed in Canada, seaplane from the interwar period and the beginning of World War II. The machine was approx. 10 m long with a wingspan of approx. 14.5 m. The top speed was around 320 km / h. The Canadian Vickers Delta II aircraft is essentially a modernization of the American Northrop Delta passenger aircraft, which in turn was based on many solutions used in the Northrop Gamma mail aircraft. The Northrop Delta aircraft was selected by Canada in 1935 as the new primary photo reconnaissance machine for the Royal Canadian Air Force. At the same time, Canada decided to purchase a license and start production at Canadian Vickers plants. The first flight of the Canadian Vickers Delta II aircraft took place in 1936 and its production continued until 1940. It is worth adding that it was the first all-metal plane in Canada's military aviation. During World War II, this type of aircraft was used, among others, for patrol flights along the coast and for the performance of ZOP tasks. After 1941, these machines were used for training purposes. Incidentally, it is worth adding that in the course of World War II, the plane was slightly modernized, primarily by strengthening the fuselage and wings structure and adding two floats.
