Jan Bytnar ps. Rudy was born in May 1921 and died in March 1943 at the age of 22. He was a scout, a member of the Gray Ranks, and finally - the Gray Ranks Assault Groups. His character was commemorated in the book "Kamienie na szaniec". Jan Bytnar came from a family with patriotic traditions - his father served in the Polish Legions during World War I. The future soldier of the Gray Ranks quickly joined the scouting movement (already in 1934, at the age of 13). In May 1939, Jan Bytnar passed his secondary school-leaving examination, but due to the beginning of the September campaign, he did not undertake regular studies. Already in October 1939, he was associated with the underground, and from June 1940 he served in the Union of Armed Struggle (ZWZ). From the summer of 1940 to 1943, he was very active in the anti-German conspiracy - for example, in January 1943, he shot a German official, Ernest Maron. On March 23, 1943, he was arrested by the Gestapo and first in Pawiak, and then in the Gestapo headquarters at al. Szucha, where he was brutally interrogated and tortured. Three days later he was recaptured by the Assault Groups in the so-called action at the Arsenal, but as a result of his injuries and injuries, he died on March 30 of the same year. He was posthumously awarded the Cross of Valor.
