Tadeusz Zawadzki ps. Zośka was born in January 1921 and died in August 1943 at the age of 22. He was a scout, commander of the Gray Ranks Assault Groups in Warsaw and a second lieutenant in the Home Army. His character was commemorated in the book "Kamienie na szaniec". Tadeusz Zawadzki came from a thoroughly intellectual family - his mother was a teacher, and his father was an academic lecturer, and later the rector of the Warsaw University of Technology. He joined the scouting movement very quickly - already in 1933, at the age of 12. In May 1939, Tadeusz Zawadzki passed his matriculation exams, but due to the beginning of the September campaign, he did not undertake regular studies. He started his underground activity in October 1939, and from the beginning of the following year he was associated with the Union of Armed Struggle (ZWZ). In the period 1940-1943, he took part in many small sabotage actions and acts of sabotage carried out by the Gray Ranks, among others, he participated in Operation Wieniec II. He was responsible for planning and implementing the successful so-called action at the Arsenal, which led to the release of Jan Bytnar from German captivity. Tadeusz Zawadzki ps. Zośka died in the course of a sabotage operation on the night of August 20-21, 1943 in Sieczychy. He was a Knight of the Order of Virtuti Militari, 5th class. His pseudonym was also used to name one of the Home Army battalions.
