The TAR-21 is an Israeli 5.56 mm assault rifle from modern times. The first copies of this weapon entered service in 2001-2003 and are still used today. In the basic version, the weight of the weapon is 3.27 kilograms, with a total length of 72 centimeters. The initial velocity of the projectile fired from this weapon is up to 910 m / s, and the theoretical rate of fire - from 750 to 880 rounds per minute. The effective range of the shot from this weapon is 550-600 meters. The presented assault rifle was developed by the Israeli company Israel Weapon Industries (IWI for short) for the use primarily of the Israeli armed forces (Cahal), which in the 1990s decided to unify the basic rifle of their infantry and withdraw the M16 and Galil rifles from the line. Interestingly, IWI approached the task unorthodox and first conducted in-depth interviews with Israeli armed forces about their new "work tool". Finally, after several years of tests and trials, a weapon was created that is very easy to use, reliable, with good and very good ballistic parameters, as well as relatively cheap to produce. It was also decided to use a bullpup system, i.e. a stockless system, similar to that used, for example, in the French FAMAS rifle.
