The Imperial Japanese Army and Navy saw a series of brilliant victories in Southeast Asia between 1941 and 1942, conquering a vast land-sea empire. However, after the lost battles at Midway (1942) and Gudalcanal (1942/1943), the tide of the war began to turn clearly in favor of the American forces, which in addition began to gain more and more advantage in terms of firepower. In order to minimize this advantage, even to a minimal extent, Japanese officers in the Pacific in the period 1943-1945 often ordered their soldiers to create dummies and imitations of artillery or even tanks, which were to attract the attention of American reconnaissance and attract enemy artillery fire. Of course, various materials are used for this - bamboo, stones, volcanic tuff, strings or used rags or uniforms from the fallen and wounded. Such solutions were most likely used in Tarawa in 1943, and later during the fighting in the Philippines in 1944 and during the battles for Iwo-Jima and Okinawa in 1945.
