Mu'ammar al-Gaddafi was probably born in June or September 1942 and was shot in October 2011. He was an officer in the Libyan armed forces, a politician, and de facto dictator of Libya from 1969 to 20111. Mu'ammar al-Gaddafi was born into a Bedouin family that farmed camels. Despite the poor financial situation, the future leader of Libya received a good education. In the early 1960s, Mu'ammar al-Gaddafi began his studies in history, but interrupted it to pursue a military career. He also received many months of military training in Great Britain. In 1969, he carried out a successful coup that brought him to power in Libya, which has now become the Libyan Arab Republic. As the dictator of Libya, he pursued an eminently anti-Western policy marked by the nationalization of Western oil extraction companies. He also removed American and British military bases from Libya. In the ideological sphere, he strove to combine Arab nationalism with communist slogans. He was indirectly involved in many local conflicts, including those in Chad and Sudan. He was shot during the so-called Arab Spring on October 20, 2011.
