EMDEN GERMAN LIGHT CRUISER FROM W.W. 2 ND

Emden was a German light cruiser, the keel of which was laid in 1921 and launched in January 1925. The cruiser entered the rope service of the German Navy in October 1925. The ship was 155 m long, 14.3 m wide, and had a full displacement of 6,990 tons. The cruiser Emden's top speed was around 29-30 knots. The main armament at the time of the launch was 8 150 mm guns in eight single turrets, and the secondary armament included: 3 88 mm guns or 4 500 mm torpedo tubes. Cruiser Emden was created to replace another German cruiser called Niobe in the line. It was based on designs from World War I, but it turned out to be very successful: it was characterized by good seagoing performance and good armor. Single artillery turrets were the mankamanet, although they were in fact a step forward compared to the solutions used before 1914. In the interwar period, Emden underwent several modernizations: in 1926 the bow mast was modernized, and in 1933-1934 boilers fired with liquid fuel were replaced. In 1938, anti-aircraft artillery was also strengthened. During World War II, he supported the German landings in Norway in April 1940. After this action, she served primarily in the Baltic Sea as a training ship. In 1941, it was engaged in actions against the Soviet fleet in this area, but its combat use was limited. It went into action again in 1944 - it put mines in the Skagerrak strait. As a result of heavy damage in March and April 1945, as a result of British air raids, it was thrown ashore and later blown up on May 3, 1945.
