BPM-97 is a modern Russian MRAP type wheeled armored personnel carrier, i.e. with increased resistance to mine explosion or the so-called fugas. The first prototypes of the vehicles were probably built in 1997, and the car went into production in 1999. So far, about 150-200 vehicles of this type have been built. The basic version of the car is powered by a single KAMAZ 740 engine with a capacity of 240 HP. The vehicle can be armed with a 14.5 mm PKWT machine gun, a 12.7 mm Kord machine gun or a 30 mm AGS-17 grenade launcher. The BPM-97 is the military designation of the KAMAZ 43269 passenger-all-terrain vehicle. The vehicle was created in connection with the efforts of the Russian Border Service to replace the GAZ-66 vehicles with a completely new design. The vehicle received relatively light armor made mainly of aluminum, protecting the crew from small-caliber fire with a caliber of up to 12.7 mm. Several versions of the BPM-97 were developed in the course of production, among which one can indicate, first of all, the vehicle with the designation KAMAZ 43269 "Dozor", i.e. a vehicle intended for the Russian army with a reinforced structure and extensive communication equipment. It is worth adding that the vehicles from the BPM-97 family, shortly after entering service, showed numerous flaws and imperfections of the structure, which, however, the manufacturer tries to systematically remove.
