The Spandau MG08 is a German heavy machine gun (machine gun for short: heavy machine gun) cal. 7.92 mm from the First World War. The first prototypes of this weapon were made in 1908, and serial production continued in 1908-1918. The initial velocity of the missile was up to 890 m / s, and the theoretical rate of fire - up to 600 rounds per minute. The effective range of the shot oscillated around 1,200 meters. The weight of the weapon with the base is 69 kg! The Spandau MG08 is essentially a version of the Maxim machine gun. Licensed production of the latter was started in Germany as early as 1901, under the designation MG01. The Spandau MG08 is a modernization of the MG01, which mainly consisted in reducing the weight of the weapon (which, however, was still relatively large) and improving its reliability. The weapon was manufactured at the Royal Rifle Factory in Spandau and the DWM company in Berlin. During World War I, Spandau MG08 was the main heavy machine gun in the German army. Based on this rifle, the MG 08/15 light machine gun and the LMG 08 aircraft machine gun were developed. After 1918, the Spandau MG08 remained in the Reichswehr armament, being systematically replaced in line units from 1934 by the MG34.
