BR 52 (another designation: DRB 52) is a series of steam locomotives (steam locomotives) that were produced in the period from 1942 to around 1950. Production was carried out by a dozen or so contractors, incl. in companies such as LOFAG, Henschel or Krauss-Maffei, but also in the German-occupied Poznań in HCP plants (Hipolit Cegielski plants). In total, about 7,000 locomotives of this type were built! The service weight of a single locomotive was 84 tons, and its length - 22.98 m. The locomotive in Whyte's notation had a 2-10-0 layout. The BR 52 steam locomotives were designed as the so-called war locomotives (German Kriegslokomotive), which meant that efforts were made to shorten the time of their production as much as possible and lower its costs. The main designer of the BR 52 was Richard Feliks Wagner. They were created as an evolutionary development of the BR 50 steam locomotives, but their design was significantly simplified and less complicated. They also had a slightly lower service weight, with almost the same length and maximum speed. The BR 52 locomotives, although produced on a large scale and as economical as possible, turned out to be successful designs. Many of them, after 1945, were transferred to the USSR as military prey, but were also used in Poland, Romania and Norway.
