Mary Arctica is a contemporary Danish merchant ship (the so-called container ship), which was built at the Polish Remontowa Shipyard in Gdańsk. The vessel was launched in 2004. The total length of the vessel is 113 m with a width of 22.7 meters. The maximum speed shall not exceed 16 knots. The crew of this relatively large ship is only 16 people. Mary Arctica was built for the de facto Danish shipowner Royal Arctica Line to provide sea freight services to and from Greenland. The purpose of the vessel, especially the sea basins on which it floats, determines the special structure of the ship. First of all, Mary Arctica has a very thick plating and its beak is designed to crush ice up to 1 meter thick. The entire stem also has a special shape, and at the rudder, for example, a special "knife" for cutting ice has been mounted. At the same time, Mary Arctica has bow thrusters, thanks to which it can maneuver freely in Greenland and Danish ports. It is worth noting that the container ship was also equipped with all the equipment necessary for self-loading and unloading of goods.
