Deptford is now an area in south-east London on the south coast of the River Thames. Since the 16th century, this area played a very important role for the English, and later British Royal Navy, because in 1513 King Henry VIII founded a shipbuilding workshop here, which quickly expanded and over time gained the name of Deptford Dockyard, being one of the key naval bases. and the Royal Navy shipyards in the British Isles. The rapid development of Deptford Dockyard began in the early 17th century, and shipbuilding plants have since tested numerous new technical and technological solutions, often later used on Royal Navy ships. It is worth adding that the presented shipyard was visited by Tsar Peter the Great during his trip to Western Europe. The heyday of Deptford Dockyard dates back to the 18th century and the era of the Napoleonic Wars, when the shipyards were producing "at full speed" for the needs of the Royal Navy. One can risk a statement that a large part of British ships from the period of the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), the War of American Independence (1775-1783) or the Napoleonic Wars (1799-1815) was built in Deptford Dockyard. However, paradoxically, after 1815 came the twilight of the shipbuilding factories, and from around 1830 a large part of this complex was inactive.
