The Pitts Special S-2 is a modern American aerobatic sports plane in a biplane system. The prototype flight took place in 1944. Serial production started shortly after and continues today! The length of the machine in the S-2B version is 5.72 m with a maximum wingspan of 6.1 meters. The drive is provided by a single Textron Lycoming AEIO-540 engine with 260 HP. The traveling speed of the plane does not exceed 285 km / h. Design works on the presented machine began in 1942, and were carried out by the American aviation constructor Curtiss Pitts. The flight of the prototype took place in 1944, and the first version of this aircraft, the Pitts Special S-1, entered production shortly after. However, from the beginning of the 1970s, another version was produced, designated as Pitts Special S-2. Compared to the previous version, the new model had significantly changed wings, it was also lengthened, and significant changes also took place in the pilot's cabin. A completely new drive unit was also used. The presented machine is widely recognized as one of the best and most famous American sports and aerobatic planes produced after 1945, and even today, airplanes of this type can be successful in aerobatics competitions!
