The HSwMS Ehrensköld was the leader of the destroyer class of the same name. These types of units were the first modern destroyers put into service in the Swedish Navy after World War I. They complemented the line of Wrangel-class destroyers, but they were much larger, much better armed and faster than them. HSwMS Ehrensköld was built at the Kockums shipyard in Malmo. He spent almost all of his long service mainly in the Baltic Sea. During World War II, he made patrol cruises on this sea, as well as set up mine barriers. It also underwent modernization, which consisted in strengthening the anti-aircraft armament. In the period 1950-1951 it was reclassified as a ZOP (anti-submarine) frigate. The ship remained in the line until 1963.
