The WL-19 is a Soviet electric locomotive from the interwar period, which was produced in 1932-1938. Approximately 145 copies of this locomotive were built in its course. The service weight was up to 120 tons, the total length was up to 16.22 meters, with a width of 3.1 meters. The design speed of the locomotive is 85 km / h and the diameter of its wheels is 1220 millimeters. The locomotive was adapted to run on a track with a width of 1524 mm. The WL-19 locomotive was the first electric locomotive produced on a large scale and used in civilian use in the history of the USSR and Russia in general. Although initially designed to haul freight trains, in practice it was a universal locomotive used in freight and passenger trains. It is worth adding that the name of the locomotive comes from the desire to commemorate the leader of the Bolsheviks during the October Revolution, Vladimir Lenin (WL), and the number 19 means the pressure on one axle in tons.
