Třebíč Castle is located in the southern part of the Czech Republic, relatively close to the present-day city of Brno. The roots of the contemporary residential building in Třebíč go back to the beginning of the 12th, when a Benedictine monastery was built on this site, which, moreover, was located on an important trade route leading to the territory of Austria. However, the monastery buildings from the 12th century have not survived to our times, and new buildings were built in their vicinity or even in their place in the 13th century, together with the church. In the late Middle Ages (14th century), the monastery was known for its high-quality school and for the functioning of an important scriptorium in South Bohemia. The Hussite wars of the 15th century, which undermined the monastery's finances, had a significant negative impact on the monasteries. At the end of this century, the monastery buildings passed into secular hands, and in the 16th century, the former monastery was rebuilt into a magnificent Renaissance-style residence. In the next century, the palace underwent another reconstruction, which, however, focused primarily on the addition of the main palace hall. The facility survived both world wars and was nationalized after 1945.
