Litomyšl Palace (part: Litomyšl Castle) is a magnificent residential building built in the territory of the present-day Czech Republic, and more precisely in the Pardubice Region. The first building in the area of the present palace was erected probably in or before the fourteenth century, because the first references to this subject are already certified for around 1395. The building was seriously damaged at the beginning of the Hussite Wars (1419-1436), but it was renovated during their duration. Unfortunately, the castle was haunted by bad luck, because in the 15th and 16th centuries it was hit by serious fires three times. The last fire (1560) almost completely destroyed the building. However, soon after, in 1568, the construction of a completely new palace began on the ruins of the old building. Giovanni Battista Aostalli was responsible for the works, and the new palace was built in the spirit of the Renaissance. The works ended in 1581. As a result, one of the most beautiful examples of Renaissance architecture in the Czech Republic, and perhaps in the whole of Central Europe, was created. It is a fantastic example of the so-called arcaded castle. However, the building was rebuilt in the baroque spirit in the 17th and 18th centuries, however, many previous elements were retained. The last major reconstruction took place in the years 1792-1796.
