Skjold was a Danish coastal defense battleship that entered service in 1897 and served until 1918. The total length of the ship was 69.2 meters and a width of 11.6 meters. The displacement reached 2,200 tons and the maximum speed did not exceed 14 knots. The unit was armed with a single 240mm cannon, three 120mm cannons and four 47mm cannons. The crew consisted of 138 people. Skjold was created in connection with the very rapid development of artillery at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, which led to a rapid loss of combat value by the existing units - including the Danish coastal defense battleship Iver Hvitfeldt, which entered service in 1886, and which was a kind of predecessor in Skjold's Danish fleet. During the construction of the new ship, the Danish admiralty placed particular emphasis on the best possible armor of the ship and strived to make the ship as small as possible, which to a large extent succeeded. The unit - for testing purposes - also received new artillery armament. And it is the last aspect, i.e. the testing of new artillery weapons, that dominated Skjold's service in the Danish fleet. Ultimately, the service of the ship ended in 1918, and two years later it was sold for scrap.
