FAI is a Soviet light armored car from the interwar period and World War II. The vehicle was powered by a single GAZ-A or GAZ-M1 engine with 42 and 50 HP . The first prototypes of the vehicle were built in 1930, and serial production was carried out in 1933-1938. Approximately 670 vehicles of this type were built in its course. The armament was single 7.62 mm DT machine gun The FAI armored car was developed at the Iżory Works (DAO) on the basis of the license-produced Ford-A chassis, under the designation GAZ-A. The vehicle used many components of this car, and the name of the new vehicle (FAI) is an abbreviation of the words Ford A Iżorski. In the course of serial production, three models of this vehicle were created: FAI (basic version), FAI ż-d (version adapted to driving on rails) and FAI-M (version based on the GAZ-M1 car with a more powerful engine). Cars of this type took part in the civil war in Spain (1936-1939), in the battles with Japan in 1938-1939, in the aggression against Poland in 1939, in the winter war (1939-1940) and in the initial period of the war with Germany ( 1941-1945).
