The Meringa was an Australian transport ship (so-called bulk carrier) that was launched in the summer of 1958. The vessel was about 126 meters long and 16.3 meters wide. The drive was provided by a single Oxford 2SA engine with a capacity of 3000 hp. Meringa was built in one of the Scottish shipyards to the order of an Australian shipping company called Adelaide Steamship Company Limited. From the very beginning, it was designed and built to transport sugar between Australian ports. From the moment it entered service, it was intended for such tasks. Between 1964 and 1977, Meringa changed shipowners, although it was still in Australian hands. In 1979, however, it was sold to a Panama-based shipping company named Grandamar SA, and in 1988 it changed hands again. The ship was eventually decommissioned in the early 1990s and was scrapped in February 1993.
