The Pfalz EI was a German reconnaissance and monoplane fighter aircraft from the First World War. The prototype flight took place in 1915. The machine entered production in the same year, and about 50 machines of this type were created. The drive was provided by a single 80 HP Oberursel UO engine. The length of the aircraft was 6.3 meters with a wingspan of 9.26 meters. The deck armament consisted of one 7.92 mm LMG 08/15 machine gun. The Pfalz Flugzeugwerke aviation plant was founded in the area of today's Bavaria in 1913. Very soon after its creation, it purchased a license to produce the French Morane-Saulnier L and H aircraft. From the latter model, Pfalz EI was created during World War I Compared to its French original, this machine received a completely new engine, although with the same maximum power and in 1915 it was also armed with a machine gun. The latter made the EI model one of the first real fighter planes in the service of Imperial Germany. Machines of this type served both on the Western and Eastern Front. They were used in combat until mid-1916.
