USS Heermann (DD-532) was an American WWII destroyer. The keel for this vessel was laid in May 1942, and the launch took place in December of the same year. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 114.8 meters and a width of 12.09 meters. The displacement reached approx. 2,050 tons, and the maximum speed was approx. 35 knots. The armament at the time of the launch consisted of five 127 mm guns, 10 40 mm anti-aircraft guns and 10 533 mm torpedo tubes. USS Heermann was one of 175 Fletcher-class destroyers. Units of this type were designed and built on a massive scale to accelerate the decommissioning process of the obsolete US Navy destroyer dating back to the First World War. Fletcher-class ships were designed from the beginning to work with large ships of the US Navy, as well as had strong anti-aircraft armament. They were also characterized by the so-called a smooth hull without a step amidships. USS Heermann (DD-532), shortly after entering service, was dispatched to the Pacific and supported Allied operations in the Gilbert Islands in late 1943. A year later, he participated, inter alia, in the activities in the Marianas and Palau, as well as in the Battle of the Island of Samar in October 1944, which was one of the elements of the great battle in the Gulf of Leyte. In 1945, USS Heermann took part in the Iwo-Jima and Okinawa landing operations. In 1951 it was withdrawn from the line, and in 1961 transferred to Argentina, where it served until 1982.
