The ZiU-9 is a Soviet, and currently Russian, trolleybus produced since 1971. The vehicle was powered by a 110 kW engine. The total length of the vehicle is 11.89 meters, 2.5 meters wide and 3.34 meters high. The top speed does not exceed 60 km / h. The trolleybus is able to carry up to 91 people. The ZiU-9 was developed in connection with the rapid development of the trolleybus network in the 1960s in the then USSR. It was also to become the basic vehicle for the country's public transport and replace the ZiU-5 in this role. Compared to its predecessor, it has been much better adapted to serving lines with considerable passenger traffic in cities such as Moscow or Kyiv. Emphasis was also placed on reducing production costs and strengthening the structure by using steel, not aluminum, for the body structure. However, the successful installation and electrical equipment taken from the ZiU-5 have been slightly changed. Several versions of this trolleybus were created in the course of production, among which the following can be indicated: ZiU-9 (first version, produced in small series), ZiU-9B (large-series version, with minor corrections) or ZiU-9W (version with improved electrical installation from 1976) . Vehicles of this type were exported to other countries, including Poland.
