SY America is a 19th and 20th century seagoing yacht, the keel of which was laid in 1850, and which was launched on May 3, 1851. The total length of the ship was 30.9 meters and a width of 6.96 meters. The total sail area was 492 m2. SY America is one of the most famous American seagoing yachts in the history of sailing. The unit was built at the William H. Brown shipyard in the city of New York. The hull was made of several types of wood, and later upholstered with copper sheets. Compared to other yachts, the SY America was noticeably larger, and her masts were tilted aft. The sails are placed on two masts. The unit was characterized by great sea properties, very high maneuverability and the same maximum speed. The yacht quickly made history by winning the 1851 Isle of Wight competition organized by the British Royal Yacht Squadron, outclassing British units. It is worth adding that in the years 1851-1901 SY America competed in 51 races, winning 12 of them. SY America was definitely dismantled in 1945.
