The Szczerbakow SZCZE-2 was a Soviet light transport plane with a wooden structure in the brace high wing configuration. The plane had a fixed, two-wheeled undercarriage in the classic layout. The propulsion was provided by two Szwiecow M-11D radial engines, 115 HP each, mounted in nacelles on the wings. The flight of the prototype took place in 1942, and serial production lasted from 1943 to 1946. It ended with the production of approximately 550 SZCZE-2s. Machines of this type began to be put into service in 1944 and from the very beginning they were used primarily for the transport of paratroopers - for which they were very well suited, thanks to the low minimum speed and cruising speed. In addition, the SZCZE-2 was used to transport the wounded and to supply partisan troops, as they could operate from makeshift airfields with a poorly hardened runway. Airplanes of this type were also used by the Polish army, namely the 13th Independent Transport Aviation Regiment, which used them until 1946.
