Duilio (full name: Caio Duilio) was an Italian armored ship that can be classified as a battleship, from the second half of the 19th century. The keel for this vessel was laid in 1873, and the launch took place in 1876. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 109.2 meters and a width of 19.74 meters. Full displacement reached approx. 12,000 tons, and the maximum speed was approx. 14-15 knots. The unit was armed with four 450 mm guns and three 533 mm torpedo tubes. Duilio was created in connection with the desire of the Italian Regia Marina at the turn of the 1860s and 1870s to acquire new, large ships. However, due to the lack of a developed shipbuilding industry, many components for the new Duilio were purchased in France and Great Britain. During its construction, many design changes were made and the unit was finally equipped with four powerful 450 mm cannons, which, however, is interesting - front-loaded and placed in two rotating turrets. The unit also received armor with a maximum thickness of 550 mm. Interestingly, despite good performance, it was assumed that the Duilio would also be able to move with sails! The Duilio was a sister ship to the Dandolo, was withdrawn from the line in 1909 and reclassified as a hulk.
