SS Sołdek was a Polish steam-powered merchant ship (so-called bulk carrier) of the post-war period. The vessel was launched in 1948 and it was put into operation in October 1949. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 87 meters and a width of 12.3 meters. The carrying capacity of Sołdek was approx. 2,500 DWT, and the maximum speed was approx. 9-10 knots. The unit did not have permanent armament. The SS Sołdek was the first ship designed and built from scratch in Poland after the end of World War II. Its name was given to commemorate Stanisław Sołdek, the leader of work from the Gdańsk Shipyard. The unit was also a de facto quite successful prototype of the B30 units, of which 29 were built between 1949 and 1954. Throughout its service, the vessel remained under the Polish flag, and its shipowner was Polska Żegluga Morska. In total, SS Sołdek made nearly 1,480 voyages and transported 3.5 million tons of goods in total. In December 1980 he was decommissioned. Since 1985, the unit has been a museum ship.
