KH7-2007-01 RADZIECKIE DZIAŁO SAMOBIEŻNE SU-76

The SU-76 is a Soviet self-propelled gun from the Second World War. The first prototypes of this vehicle were built in 1942, and serial production lasted from 1942 to 1945. Approximately 14,000 vehicles of this type were created in its course. The combat weight of this SPG in the basic version was up to 10.2 tons. The drive was provided by two coupled GAZ-202 engines with a capacity of 70 HP each. The armament of the vehicle consisted of a 76.2 mm ZIS-3 gun. The SU-76 self-propelled gun was developed on the basis of the T-70 light tank. Originally, it was assumed that the SU-76 would be a tank destroyer, but in practice of the Eastern Front, it was very often used to support one's own infantry in defense and attack with direct and indirect fire. Although it was developed relatively quickly, if not hastily, it turned out to be a very successful weapon, relatively cheap to produce and easy to use. The main modification of the SU-76 was the car designated SU-76M (SU-15), in which reliability was improved, one gearbox was used to operate both engines and the vibration level in the car was significantly reduced. SU-76 vehicles were used on a large scale during the fighting on the Eastern Front, and also - on a smaller scale - during the Korean (1950-1953) by the armed forces of North Korea.
