The PZL I-22 Iryda is a Polish training and combat aircraft with a metal structure in the high wing configuration, with a three-support landing gear - retractable in flight. The drive was provided by two motors SO-3W22 or PZL K-15. The plane was first flown in 1985, but its production was limited to a dozen or so. The machine was armed with a 23mm GSz-23L cannon and could carry weapons on four under-wing pylons. The PZL I-22 Iryda was developed as a successor to the TS-11 Iskra aircraft, and work on the new machine began in 1976. The first prototypes were ready at the beginning of the 1980s, but work on the final version of the aircraft was delayed due to technical and financial problems. After the fall of the communist government in Poland, Rolls-Royce engines were tested on the aircraft, and the Sagem avionics were introduced. In the years 1992-1996, eight machines of this type were used in the 58 Aviation School Regiment. However, due to the inability to eliminate design errors, the project was canceled and the PZL I-22 Iryda did not enter mass production. Interestingly, at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, India was interested in the plane, but the purchase of the machine or the license for its production did not take place.
