Flying Cloud was an American and later British clipper from the 19th century. The unit was launched in 1851, and the cost of its construction was $ 90,000 at that time. The ship was built in a shipyard in the city of East Boston in the USA. The vessel was 69 m long and 12.7 m wide. Its displacement (according to American measures) was about 1750 tons. The ship did not have any weapons. The Flying Cloud was designed and built under the supervision of an American engineer and renowned clipper builder Donald McKey. The clipper had a very slender hull with probably good hydrodynamic properties, it also had - as befits a real clipper - very rich sails. The clipper was also famous for its very high speed and good sea bravery. The uniqueness of the structure is evidenced by the fact that it sailed from New York to San Francisco, circumnavigating Cape Horn in 89 days and 8 hours. This record remained unbeaten until 1989!
