The Daimler-Benz DB 601 was a German WWII aero engine manufactured by Daimler-Benz AG. It was first tested in 1935. The engine - in the DB 601 A version - weighed 590 kilograms with a displacement of 34 liters. It is estimated that between 1937 and 1943, around 19,000 examples of this aircraft engine were produced. The Daimler-Benz DB 601 was a 12-cylinder V12 inverted, liquid-cooled V12 engine. The engine was developed on the basis of the successful DB 600 engine, and the main design change was the use of direct fuel injection (similar to, for example, the Jumo 211 engine), which significantly improved the performance of the new engine. Since the entry into series production, the Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine has been continuously developed, resulting in a significant increase in the maximum power in subsequent versions. For example, in the DB 601 A version it was 1175 hp, in the DB 601 N version it reached 1253 hp at the appropriate height, and in the DB 601 E model it reached 1430 hp. It is worth adding that this type of engine was licensed in Japan and Italy. The Daimler-Benz DB 601 was used as a power unit for several German aircraft of the Second World War. First of all, it powered such machines as the early Messerschmitt Me-109 models, Me-110 ora Me-210 fighters or the Dornier Do-215 bomber.
