Mil Mi-22 (other designation: Mi-6AYa / VzPU) was a Soviet heavy helicopter designed by the Mil Engineering Bureau for the Soviet armed forces of the Cold War period. The drive was provided by two Soloviev D-25W engines, 5500 KM each. The length of the helicopter was 41.74 meters, with a main rotor diameter of 35 meters! The maximum take-off weight was 40,500 kilograms. The helicopter was created as a modernization of the very successful Mil Mi-6 machine, which was once considered the most powerful helicopter in the world. The main change was a far-reaching modification of the avionics compared to the basic version of the Mi-6. First of all, the Mi-22 received a SLAR radar. During the service, instead of transport tasks, it performed the function of a flying command post, especially during airborne operations.
