Tornio is a modern Finnish missile boat. The unit was ordered in 2001 and entered service in May 2003 - it is still in active service. The total length of the ship is 50.8 meters and a width of 8.3 meters. Full displacement reaches 270 tons and the maximum speed is approx. 32 knots. The Tornio is armed with four RBS-15SF missile launchers, a single 57mm cannon, an Umkhonto missile launcher, two 12.7mm machine guns and depth charge dumps. Tornio is one of four Hamina-class torpedo boats. Units of this type were created on the basis of experience gained in operation and many design solutions of Rauma class ships. Externally, the units of both classes differ mainly in the shape of the superstructure, which in the Hamin class uses elements of reduced detectability for radars. They also have a very low level of magnetic field, which makes it difficult to destroy them by sea mines. Units of this type have modern electronic equipment consisting of, among others, sonar or general surveillance radar. They also show the ability to fight water and air targets. Therefore, despite their small size, they are valuable units in combat, especially useful in the coastal waters of Finland.
