Type 24 is the name of a class of German torpedo boats that entered service with the German Navy (hereinafter: MW) in 1927-1929. A single ship of this type was 92.6 meters long and 8.65 meters wide. Full displacement did not exceed 1,400 tons, and the maximum speed was around 34 knots. The armament consisted of: 3 single 105 mm guns, 2 triple 500 mm torpedo tubes and up to 30 min. The Type 24 torpedo boats were originally designed to complement and then replace the Type 23 units in the line. Compared to their predecessors, they were slightly longer and slightly faster. However, they generally had very similar combat capabilities, and what is more - they had considerable difficulties with sailing in strong winds. All Type 24 torpedo boats were built at the Reichsmarinewerft shipyard in Wilhelmshaven. Units played a limited role in the activities in the Baltic Sea during the September Campaign (1939) and later during the fighting in Norway (1940). After the capture of France by the German army, they carried out tasks related to building minefields on the English Channel. Those units that survived in 1941 were transferred to the Danish straits to perform patrol tasks. In 1942 they returned to French ports again. The last surviving torpedo boat of this class was the Jaguar, which after 1942 was used to escort U-boats in the waters of the Bay of Biscay or to carry out convoy tasks in Norwegian waters. However, it was also sunk in June 1944 as a result of a British air attack.
