HNMLS Evertsen was a Dutch destroyer, keel laid in August 1925, launched in December 1926, and commissioned in 1928. The vessel was 98 meters long and about 9.5 meters wide. Standard displacement was around 1,350 tons, and the maximum speed was around 36 knots. The ship's armament consisted of: 4 120 mm guns, 1 75 mm gun, and 4 40 mm AA guns. The unit was also able to perform flight operations with a single Fokker C.VII-W seaplane shortly after entering service. HNMLS Evertsen was one of the Admiralen-class destroyers. Units of this type were built with the considerable technical assistance of the British Yarrow shipyard, and to a large extent their design and construction were based on the destroyers HMS Ambuscade and HMS Amazon. The Admiralen-class ships were to replace the Wolf-class ships in the Dutch Navy, which were much larger, better armed and had generally better performance. HNMLS Evertsen was constructed at the Burgerhout shipyard in Rotterdam, and shortly after entering service was sent to the Dutch East Indies, where it operated for most of its service. In the period 1940-1941, he carried out convoy tasks in the Indian Ocean. On March 1, 1942, the unit launched a fire fight with two Japanese destroyers, as a result of which it settled on a reef near the Sebuku Islands, and sank shortly after.
