USS Chelan County (LST-542) was an American Landing Ship (Tank), the keel of which was laid in November 1943, launched in January 1944, and entry into service the same year. Its total length at the time of launching was 100 meters and a width of 15 meters. Full displacement reached about 4,150 tons, and the maximum speed did not exceed 12 knots. The armament included, among others: 2 twin 40mm cannons or 12 single 20mm AA cannons. USS Chelan County (LST-542) was constructed on the basis of previous experience gained in the operation of this type of ships. Compared to its predecessors, it was characterized by, among other things, quite clearly reinforced anti-aircraft armament. It was able to carry 4 LCVP barges with approx. 160 landing troops. USS Chelan County (LST-542) was built in a shipyard Missouri Valley Bridge Company in Evansville, Indiana. During World War II, the unit served in Europe and took an active part in the Normandy landings in June 1944. After the end of the war, the ship was assigned to the Atlantic Fleet. It was decommissioned in 1956 and sold for scrap three years later (1959).
