USS Galveston (CL-93 / CLG-3) was originally an American light cruiser, which was later upgraded to a missile cruiser, the keel of which was laid in February 1944 and launched in April 1945. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 186 m, width 20.2 m, with a standard displacement of approx. 11,900 tons. The maximum speed was up to 32-33 knots. It was assumed that the armament of the unit would consist, among others, of: 12 152 mm guns, 12 127 mm AA guns and 21 AA guns. Oerlikon cal. 20 mm. USS Galveston (CL-93 / CLG-3) was one of the Cleveland class cruisers. Units of this type were created as a development of the earlier Brooklyn class, with an even greater range and significantly enhanced anti-aircraft armament. They also received modern fire control systems and radars. The Cleveland class also proved to be the most numerous class of US Navy light cruisers during World War II! The USS Galveston (CL-93 / CLG-3) was initially launched as a light cruiser in 1945, but its further construction and equipment was suspended for several years. The unit officially entered service only in 1958, being classified as a missile cruiser, equipped with RIM-8 Talos missiles, designed to counter air targets. During its service, the unit operated, inter alia, in the Pacific, and in 1965 and in the years 1968-1969 it took part in the Vietnam War. The unit was withdrawn from the line in 1970.
