USS Bebas (DE-10) was an American escort destroyer, the keel of which was laid in November 1942, launched in January 1943, and completed in May of the same year. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 88.2 m, width 10.7 m, with a full displacement of approximately 1,350 tons. The maximum speed did not exceed 20-21 knots. The armament of the unit at the time of launching included: 3 76 mm guns, a quadruple 28 mm anti-aircraft cannon, and 2 20 mm anti-aircraft guns. USS Bebas (DE-10) was one of the Evarts-class escort destroyers that were launched between 1942 and 1944. From the very beginning, units of this type were designed to cover convoys - mainly in the Atlantic - and to combat German submarines. The aim was also to create solid units, but as simple and cheap to build as possible. Many of the Evarts-class ships were transferred to the Royal Navy. Finally, a quite successful type of ship was created, which played a role during the Battle of the Atlantic. The USS Bebas (DE-10), belonging to this type, was built at the Boston Navy Yard and was originally intended for the British Navy, but was eventually assigned to the US Navy. Throughout its service, the unit operated in the Pacific region, performing mainly the tasks of convoy protection and patrols. It also supported amphibious operations in the Philippines in 1944 and participated in the Okinawa landings in 1945. The unit was withdrawn from service in November 1945, and in 1947 it was scrapped.
