Le Suroit is a French research and search vessel that was launched in 1975. The total length of the ship is 56.3 meters and a width of 11 meters. Full displacement reaches 1,130 tons and maximum speed up to 10-11 knots. The ship's crew consists of about 16-23 people. The unit does not have any weapons. Le Suroit was constructed for the needs of the French IFREMER institute dealing with the broadly understood exploration and study of the oceans and seas. The unit was built in Ateliers et Chantiers de la Manche in the city of Dieppe in France, with its home base being Brest. The vessel currently has relatively extensive electronic and hydroacoustic equipment, enabling mapping of the seabed. Le Suroit is also seismic capable. Perhaps the most famous expedition in which Le Suroit took part was the successful search for the wreckage of the RMS Titanic at the turn of July and August 1985.
