Swift Boats (also known as Patrol Craft Fast - PCF) is the name of a class of US coastal and river patrol vessels from the Cold War and modern times. The Swift Boats were 15.24 meters long, 3.96 meters wide, and 1.53 meters draft. The displacement reached 21.3 tons. The drive was provided by two diesel engines with a total power of 870 hp, allowing a top speed of 32 knots. The concept of creating Swift Boats was born in 1965 under the influence of the first experiences resulting from the Vietnam War (1964 / 1965-1975). It was assumed that the new units would operate in relatively shallow waters, their range should oscillate around 600-800 kilometers, and the armament would consist mainly of small-caliber small arms. The idea was implemented very quickly, and the production of these relatively small and simple-to-build units began shortly after 1965. Swift Boats operated primarily in the coastal waters and rivers of Vietnam, supporting the actions of land units against Vietcong troops, as well as performing transport tasks. Three variants of Swift Boats were created in the course of production: Mark I, II and III. The last units of this type remained in service in the USA until 1995.
