The Knox-class units were American frigates built between 1965 and 1974. The total length of the ship of this class was 134 meters and a width of 14.3 meters. Full displacement reached about 4,150 tons, and the maximum speed was around 27 knots. The armament of this type of frigates included: a single 127 mm Mark 42 cannon, a single 8-rail ASROC rocket-torpedo launcher and a 324 mm torpedo launcher. During the modernization process, the 20mm Vulcan Phalanx CIWS set and the RIM-7 Sea Sparrow rocket launcher were added, among others. The Knox class had a total of 46 units and was developed to replace the Bronstein and Garcia classes in the unit line. The design is based on a very similar hull, but it has been significantly strengthened and its durability has been improved. There was also a lot of emphasis on the activities of ZOP (anti-submarine warfare) through the selection of an appropriate set of weapons, as well as the installation of a very modern at that time AN / SQS-26 sonar. The units were also characterized by good seafaring. Their major disadvantage was initially the lack of extensive anti-aircraft weapons, which, however, were tried to be made up for in later modernizations. It is worth noting that after withdrawing from the US Navy, some units of this type were transferred, among others, to the Chinese Republic in Taiwan, where they served as the Chi Yang class.
