DM70011 CHINESE NAVY TYPE 056/056A FRIGATE

The Type 056 defines a class of modern Chinese corvettes. Units of this type entered service in the PRC Navy from the beginning of 2013. In total, approx. 40-42 ships of this type have been built so far, of which approx. 37 are operated by the PRC. The 056 class ships are 90 meters long and 11.14 meters wide. The displacement is around 1,500-1,800 tons, and the top speed is probably just over 25 knots. The armament of the unit includes: a single 76 mm cannon, two dual YJ-83 rocket launchers or two triple 324 mm torpedo tubes. The ship can operate with one in-flight helicopter, but does not have a hangar for its homing. The Class 056 Corvettes were designed primarily to bridge the gap between the Type 022 missile boats and the Type 054A frigates. It is also often assumed that they were created to replace the increasingly obsolete type 053 / 053H corvettes (frigates) in the line. They differ from their predecessors on almost every level: they have much more modern electronic equipment or weapons, as well as generally greater combat capabilities. It is worth adding that units of this type (056) were purchased by Bangladesh and Nigeria.
