The AS-1 Kennel (another designation: KS-2 Komet) was a Soviet long-range air-to-air and air-to-water missile. Its first prototypes appeared in the late 1940s, and it entered the USSR armed forces in 1953. The AS-1 Kennel was a missile with a range of up to 100 kilometers, capable of carrying a warhead weighing 600 kg with a total curb weight of approximately 3,000 kg. The AS-1 Kennel missile was developed by the MKB Raduga office in response to the Soviet Air Force's demand for a new air-to-water guided missile. The manufacturer used the aerodynamic solutions used in the MiG-15 fighter - the similarity was so great that the AS-1 Kennel looked like its progenitor, only without the cockpit and landing gear, and had a changed nose. The targeting was inertial, and in the last phase of the attack - turned into semi-active radar. The missile, due to its weight, was carried only by two types of aircraft: Tu-4 and Tu-16. Probably by 1969, the AS-1 Kennel was withdrawn from the armed forces of the USSR.
