The 70-K is a Soviet 37mm naval automatic anti-aircraft gun from the Second World War. The initial velocity of the projectile fired from this gun was about 850-880 m / s, with a maximum vertical range of about 4,000 meters. The first prototypes of this weapon were created in 1938, and its adoption took place in 1940. About 1,200 guns of this type were created in the course of production. The 70-K gun was developed on the basis of the 37 mm caliber 1939 (61-K) anti-aircraft gun. The new weapon was to replace the 45 mm 21-K gun on Soviet vessels. Compared to the latter gun, the 70-K had a lower range, but had a significantly better rate of fire, and was able to fire much more modern ammunition. The 70-K gun relatively quickly became the primary light anti-aircraft weapon for Soviet ships during World War II. The production of this gun, which was reduced after 1945, continued until the mid-1950s.
