The Saab 91 Safir was a Swedish Cold War training aircraft. The prototype's flight took place in November 1945, and the machine entered production a year later. In total, 323 examples of this aircraft were built. The length of the machine - in the 91A version - was 7.8 meters with a wingspan of 10.6 meters. The drive was provided by a single de Havilland Gipsy Major engine with a maximum power of 145 HP. The maximum speed of the aircraft was around 265 km / h. The machine did not have a permanent on-board armament. Saab 91 Safir was developed by Anders Andersson, who previously worked at the German aviation company Bücker on the Bü-181. The new machine was characterized by a fully metal construction, good aerodynamic properties and good performance for this class of machines. In the course of production, a total of five versions of the aircraft were created, among others: 91A (basic production version), 91B (version with the Lycoming O-435 engine) and 91B-2 (version for the Norwegian Air Force). The main recipients of the Saab 91 Safir were the Swedish air force, but the machine was also exported to other countries, such as Finland, Norway and Austria. It is worth adding that serial production was carried out in Sweden, but also in the Netherlands at De Schelde plants.
