CENTAUR MK.IV BRITISH TANK

The Centaur IV was a British post-WWII tank, but it can be classified as a tracked self-propelled gun as well. The wagon's length was about 6.35 meters, with a width of about 2.9 meters. The main armament was a 95 mm howitzer, and the additional armament was two machine guns. About 115 vehicles of this type were manufactured in the course of production. The Centaur tank was developed for the British Army as a successor to the not very successful Crusader. When designing a new vehicle, for the first time it was decided to use a universal cannon in a British tank, capable of both destroying enemy vehicles and surface targets. The first Centaur tanks came off the Rover production line powered by outdated Liberty engines under the designation A27L. In total, five versions of this car were created, of which only the Centaur IV version was used in combat. It entered action in Normandy in 1944 as part of the Royal Marines Armored Support Group. It should also be remembered that the Centaur cars (after changing the engine) gave rise to the successful medium tanks of the Cromwell type.
