HMS AMBUSH

HMS Ambush (S120) is a modern British nuclear powered fighter submarine (ANN), the keel of which was laid in October 2003, launched in January 2011, and was completely completed in 2013. The total length of the ship at the time of launching was 97 m, width 11.3 m, with an underwater displacement of about 7,800 tons. In turn, the maximum speed when submerged is around 30 knots. Design work on this type began in the mid-1980s and assumed the creation of submarines dedicated primarily to countering other submarines (implicitly - to replace Trafalgar ships), which meant special emphasis on soundproofing and the use of the most perfect components electronic - in particular sonars. However, with the end of the Cold War, the Astute class became more versatile and was given the ability to attack targets on land, for example. HMS Ambush (S120) was constructed at BAE Systems' shipyard in Barrow-in-Furness in the North West of England. It is assumed that the unit will remain in line for a period of at least 25 years after being put into service. One of the most interesting episodes of HMS Ambush (S120) service was a collision with a merchant ship in the Strait of Gibraltar in July 2016.
