REGGIANE 2005

Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario (Italian: archer) is an Italian, single-engine low wing fighter plane, with a full metal structure with a classic tail. The flight of the prototype took place on May 9, 1942, and serial production started in 1943. The prototype, bearing the designation MM494, used a Fiat RA engine as a drive. 1050 RC. 58 Tifone with 1475KM, which was the license version of the DB-605A. It achieved great results in test flights and became the basis for the serial version. However, the organizational paresis in Italian aviation, as well as problems with engine shutdowns, meant that serial production of this great aircraft did not start until May 1943! By the Italian capitulation, fewer than 40 machines were built with the original DB-605A engine in September 1943. Re.2005 took part in the fighting in Sicily and southern Italy, and later a small number of them were used by the Italian Social Republic. The Reggiane Re.2005 was undoubtedly a very successful design, with good performance, unfortunately it was made in too few numbers to make any difference to the scales of the war.
