Piranha (other designations: Losos class or project 865) is the name of the class of Soviet / Russian miniature diesel-electric submarines. Units of this type served in the years 1988-1997. In total, only 2 of the 6 planned ships of this type were built. The Piranha-class ship was 28.2 m long, 4.8 m wide, and had a displacement of 390 tons. The maximum underwater speed is about 6-7 knots. Ships of this type could be armed with two mines or two torpedoes. The Piranha-class ships were designed and built primarily for various types of special missions that require a high degree of stealth. The hull of the ship was made of titanium alloys, which significantly limited the possibility of detection, but also allowed units of this type to reach a depth of 200-240 meters! The hull was also well shaped in terms of hydrodynamic and hydroacoustic. Project 865 units are also assumed to be very quiet and difficult to detect by sonar devices. Only two units of this type were built (MS-520 and MS-521), which are currently most likely in reserve.
